The filter screen is an important part of the extruder, and the filter can be used to produce a qualified product. Extruder filters are used in the filtration and blending of various viscous flow materials and products such as plastics, chemical fiber, rubber, hot melt adhesives, adhesives, finishing materials, and mixtures. In general, the filter mesh (or the number of wires per inch) is 20 to 150 or more. The 20 mesh filter is coarse; the 40 to 60 mesh filter is fine; the 80 to 150 mesh filter is fine. Most filter meshes are woven in squares, with the same number of wires in each direction. The Dutch-style weaving method uses coarse wire in the horizontal direction and specifies a double number, for example, 32 x 120 wires/in (1in=25.4mm). Filters made with the Dutch weaving method do not require the use of a parallel screen within the filter unit to provide fine filtration.
The pore size of filters with the same number of meshes is determined according to the diameter of the wire, and it does not need to be exactly the same. For example, a 20-mesh filter made of 24 in. diameter and 0.02 in. diameter wire has a 0.01 in. opening per side; and is made of 30 in. and 0.01 in. diameter metal wire.
